I bought a '94 525i about 3 weeks ago. Last wednessday my wife drove it to work. While she was at work a man driving a large delevery truck parked accross the street and exited the truck leaving it running and his 9 year old boy sitting in the passenger seat. While the man was inside his son managed to get the truck into gear (stupid automatics) and went accross 4 lanes of busy traffic, up over a curb through a flower bed, and slamed into the back of my e34. The truck hit the car on the right rear side of the car mangling the rear quarter panel and trunk, but missing the bumper. The car was pushed 90% of the way out of the parking spot it was in.
I have got to 2 body shops so far and they have estimated it will take $3800 to fix, although thats only body damage, no mechanical damage, which I think there is some. I'm not a fan of having the quarter panel cut of and new one welded on ect, since I will hence forth be able to tell the car was wrecked, and since it wasen't my fault, I shouldn't have to live with it.
Anyway if the insurance company cuts me a check for the damages, I'm thinking of parting the car out if I can get my money back out of it. I'd like to keep the m50 and 5 speed for my e30, but basicly everything else is sellable, excetp for the rear quarter, tail light, and trunk lid. The interrior is mint with just slight ware showing on the side bolsters of the front seats (fixable). Is there enough demand for the parts that I could get my money back out of it?
