It all depends on what you want to call cheap? I've personaly looked aound for bashed up e30 M3 for as high as 6thousand bucks that was outrageous and this dealer in a town nearby had 3 M3's ranging from 10,500 to 13,000 for the smoked grey extirior with the cardinal red interior...but who knows maybe that's cheap in your book? then again you where talking to a salesman

good E30s are getting hard to find in the PNW. So from my experience, yes, Cali has had a larger selections at a considerable lower price.

e30s are cheap mainly due to the hollywood scene back in the 80s

LA and SF back in 1988-1990 was jammed packed with e30's. A lot of the SF cars got bashed up by driving in the city (like any big city)...

Some of those cars were kept in the garage(think m3's and cab's, and peoples pride and joy) Till say 1995 - 1997 when they were sold off to anyone. - others were handed down to kids that then ruined them.

The one's kept in garages were most likely mint they day the original owner sold them - and now have 10 years of being parked in an uncovered spot. And being that it is CA - not that big of a deal.

In CA, most all the eta's have been crushed after a timing belt snap, or small accident. And - there was a lot of "posers" that felt they need to drive a BMW, and they bought up all the cheap 318i/325e/325es on used car lots. Then drove them into the ground. So you find mostly 89-91 cars.

Here is what $1400 (if you shop around for a few months) will get you.

'89 230k worn interior and a weak motor (2 unplugged fuel injectors - fixed with a solid push on the connectors)

(the week I got her)...(now has a m30 motor, full black mint interior 16" K1's, ect...new pics to come someday!#%@#!!!)

george your whip is helllaaaa clean. i got a 1989 325is in about that exterior condition(except i have a few more paint chips on hood) with 250k miles, from an original owner who is this old dude that had it garaged up, bought it for $1500 but it didn't pass smog and no heater so $2000 more for the heater core and cat. definetly worth it but plenty months of searching and once you think you've found it contact him without thinking twice, if you like it and its clean go for it, but if not don't do it and dont look back. cars in the condition like mine and george is very hard to come by for the price and from an original owner is always better but its alot of searching and waiting.

in the bay we got e30's and e28's all over the place but rarely do i see a 325is/m3/318is, alot of them are just old people who drive the automatics.

Also LA has very good prices on cars, audio, and mechanical work even cheaper then the Bay but ONLY if you know hookups, and don't buy from kids. one of my boi
s bought a 95 325is for a swooop down there with some screens in the headrest and as soon as he drove it up to the bay area everything started shitting on him and after tranny work and suspension work he lost the love for bimmers and went on to a honda accord.

Personally I think the M3s will cost you more if they come from Cali. Since they are now over 20 years old, rust is an issue and buying a Cali car reduces the chances of rust significantly. I couldn't find the M3 I wanted in Cali within my price range, so I got mine from Michigan. In hindsight I wish I would have been more patient and found a Cali one.

Its all pure luck what you find and where you find it for sale

You can go out to the most deserted area out in the BFE and you can land a treasure

The California car market has been known to be the most expensive. Texas typically has the cheapest cars b/c Dallas & Houston are large hubs for car auctions, dealers bring in & take out cars from them.

Cali car prices differ but the one way you can get them real cheap is if they dont pass emissions. The price of the car is basically what the buyer wants to pay since cali emissions are so strict.I heard a story of someone buying and immaculent m3 for $1000 i dont know how true it was but i saw the car and it was gorgious. Either way ive only heard of cali cars being cheaper due to them not passing emissions. I know some used car places will buy cali cars and sell them here.

On hawthorne Blvd with the 17" BBS? I was so about to buy that car.

Got this for $1050 with new tires, rebuilt head, new bilstein hd's, new cd player, and a fresh paint job. Needed an o2 sensor, new front rotors, fuel line, motor mounts, and oil cooler. About $300 worth of work for a reliable dd

Well he was a car salesman, and possibly worse, a used car salesman. If he had ocean front property in Arizona would you be interested?

Lesson is, most car salesman are full of BS !!
