Feels like my shifter wants to pop out...

Whenever I shift hard, it seems the shifter pops up, I can still shift gears, but I usually just push it back down. With some force, I can move it up and down. Anyone experience this before that can shed some light as to what needs to be replaced?

    Thanks,
    David

Everyone seems to be on the ball with that. I'm also for the shifter bushing.

We can offer one for like $12-14 shipped or a whole short shifter kit for $92 :)

The Z4 3.0 is the one that requires some work. With no modifications, your best bets are the Z3 2.8 and the Z4 2.5

I've got the Z4 2.5 as well, and I love it. Get the shift knob fromt he e46 330i ZHP-it is the only factory weighted knob BMW has made, it is about a cm shorter than most knobs, and greatly improves shift smoothness and stiffness.

I had to bend the z3 2.8 a slight amount to make it sit at the right angle. I htink it's the overall best compromise of all the levers though. Well worth it. Not stupid short and notchy like the z4 levers...
