    e30 Sway Bar Upgrades

    Hey Guys,
Please educate me on the typical e30 sway bar upgrades. What size are the bars on my 1989 325i? Do the M3 bars bolt on? If so what are their diameter? I found a set for $75 and it seems like a great option to the $300 aftermarket bars.
    Thanks,
    Todd

The m3 rear bar will bolt right up. The front bar will require you to weld on perches onto the strut assembly.

Lots of people like the Ireland Engineering bars, Suspension Techniques...

When you go with bigger bars, you may want to look into reinforcements (Turner, IE). Although some of the smaller bars may not cause you problems, the bigger ones (ST, IE), will most likely rip out your rear mounts given the proper amount of time.

For me, Suspension technique are my favorite bars. If you want something a little more mild that bolts on you can get an E30 325 convertable front bar and the E30 M3 rear bar. You cannot use the M3 front bar without welding M3 mounts. The M3 bar is actually smaller than the 325 bar so if you use 325 mounts on it you'll be stepping backwards.

And reinforcement is a must. There are tons to choose from. I have some for the inner mounts of the rear bar for sale, check out South Bay Independent.

True the M3 bar is smaller than the 325iS bar but the mounting technic is differant so it pllies differant forces in differant areas. It actually works better and applies less stress on the suspension. The M3 bar is an upgrade. Trust me do some research on it. The rear bar on the M3 is 14.5 mm and the M-technic bar is the same barso if you can locate one of these your in, and for $75 that's a steal. On the front you need to weld the attachment tabs like on Stu's car. He upgrade or check out Dave McAdams? In Cal. he did this with his car also.

Thanks guys. I am going to go with the stock rear bar and the 325ic front bar since I want to dial in understeer.
