    Cam Shafts

Well i took my car to the shop today(close friend of my dads) to get a new Valve put in and well we figured out i need a new Head ( i got one from my old car) and a cam shaft and my dad heard you could increase power with different Cam's and he liked that idea...so i have no idea about cam shafts but learning slowly about the car though..so could ppl help me out here (this post is basically for my dad) if you know of a good cam please say so and a reason there good would be nice too...

    thanks a bunch

you wont gain much, if anything buy just throwing a cam in there. you need supporting modifications to the motor.

you could have the head ported.

The intake and exhaust openings would be ported to match the openings on their respective intake/exhaust gaskets. But like Rob said, this would only be appreciatable with other modifications (e.g. an Extrude Hone intake manifold and shorty headers with a free-flow cat back exhaust)

I'm also refering to bottom end modifications that increase compression to take advantage of the more aggressive cam

if anything see if you can get the head shaved, or block decked to increase the compresion a few points. More aggressive cams like the higher compression. and 8.8:1 on an NA engine, is not exactly extreme.

what do you think of an engine rebuilding ????

My opinion is modify your engine and use a matching cam,
don't match your engine on your cam

I'd swap in the more advanced engine long before rebuilding the M20.
Unless there was some vital reason to keep the M20, like class restrictions.

btw, cams can increase performance a lot on engines.....but it just doesn't help the M20 that much. Chad, your dad should look at other cars, and check out how cams increase power.
