has anyone actually tested wet sanding an area? I've always wondered what the results would be..

Probably not :) I'll try to find some insane-fine sand paper though to try it with in some very not-obvious border area of the window. Not going to promise I'm going to try it though. The scratches/sun bake cracks I'm taking out are already super fine, not so sure how sand paper would do. The polish I'm using feels like toothpaste, no noticeable grit at all. That's why I'm thinking about trying some real (paint) polishing or cutting compound lightly that I know is much grittier to see if it'll do it any faster. Then I'd go back over it with the plastic polish to smooth it out, but that way it wouldn't use up so much of it. I have to work at noon tomorrow, till after its dark but I'll try to get out and experiment tomorrow morning.

I'm no paint guy but the it's the chemical composition of some of these grit compounds you guys are referring to that would have me hold off. At least fine wet sandpaper is just that; fine sanding and water. Besides cleaning is always only supposed to consist of mild soap, water and a terry on these things... Once I tried some Mothers plastic shit and noticed no results, I stopped right there. Didn't want to start applying different products..

Didn't think of that, I'll just keep going on with what I'm doing maybe trying some other methods. I'll keep it updated here though with the status.

When I replaced my top, the shop manager gave me a plastic "industrial" grade plastic polisher. Mine was brand new so nothing was needed for mine but the MG's window was hazier then yours. We used this and it looks brand new. I will call my dad tomorrow and see if he still has some and who makes it.

It was basically a lotion type substance, wipe on, sit, wipe off and new looking window.

Oh, yah, definitely let us know!
Sounds similar to the ebay product. Polishing this stuff to oblivion is a BITCH.

                    I purchased my zip-in replacement from emiata.com.
My experience was not very pleasant (with the product). First off, I have an OEM top that's in very good shape, but needed a rear window replacement. The instructions provided seemed straight forward, but it was VERY difficult. I tried so many times to put it on, and after probably 50 tries over 5 months, I gave up! I took it to a shop and had them install it. They too, had trouble because the fit wasn't great, and the stitching on the edges were coming apart already (probably because I tried zipping it in so many times). They had to restitch a good portion of the window. I did contact the seller regarding my problems, and he kept on telling me it's easy and I should be able to do it.

Personally, I would not purchase this zip in. All the shops I called told me to go OEM. The fit is just better, and a lot of them will ONLY install if the window is OEM. I ended up paying another $200 bucks for installation + the $130 or so for the window. I could have gotten an OEM installed for about $400, which will be the way to go the next time I need a new rear window. Hope this helps.
