A few tech qs. Please help me find my daily driver

Test drove an e30 (1989 325i) last weekend. Would like to pick your brains on the following:

1) AC does not blow that cold while the car is sitting or going slow, only blows cold at highway speeds. Ideas?
2) How long does the auto tranny usually last on these cars? I believe it has been maintained properly but it does shift a little rough. Ideas?

Mine is at 225k on original tranny, shifts fine.
