i love e30's... i swear, the party never ends

i can see why we love our e30's and why our S.O.'s hates it.

sure it's a blast to drive and this and that but it's always one thing or another.

i just found out the previous owner's mechanic is a complete putz. he had the cooling system done. great! the guy even zip tied the top hose so the fan blade doesn't hit it. BUT.... he forgot to put the foot back on the radiator itself! so what did this do? it gave the radiator so much play, the lower pump hose was literally SITTING on top of the ac compressor. what does the ac compressor have? a belt. what does the belt to? move. what did the belt do to the hose? ate it up just enough to cause a small leak that can drive a crazy man insane! well, had it on my buddy's lift and got it done. woopee!! great!!!

the victory was short lived. the oil cooler line from the filter is now leaking.

i swear, it's either one thing or another. but when she runs right... ZOMG. the iX's handling is just so much fun! she, unlike the autotragic ones, is quite quick. quick enough to surprise most out there!

love hate thing meng... love hate thing.

um, 7:46 is a lil early to be drunk and to wax philosophic, Dan.

    :giggle:

BTW I retardedly didn't transfer those bumpers on my E36 for a few hundred miles, then I installed them once I looked at the ETK diagram for some reason...

when you have a cat like mine where he gouges at your eyes and headbutts you until you get up to feed him, getting up anywhere between 5:45am and 7:46 isn't out of the question.

i do have to say... he makes on hell of an alarm clock.

Just so you know, an auto transmission will shift faster than you can.

EXACT same thing happened to me in my car, I think due to the fact that it had some "universal" radiator in it or something, it didn't fit in the factory brackets and the previous guy had extended them using sections of heater hose. Ghettttto.

All fixed up with a new radiator and good to go now. :)

you, sir, have a challenge on your hands. :D

always wondered. slipping out of gear and using just enough clutch to get it into the next takes very little time. the auto still needs time to change from one gear to the next. would like to have a "shoot out".

PS: i had an auto iX... when they say there are some things worse then death, i think they were thinking about an auto iX. :P

                untrue.

case in point: They measured the performance of an e46 m3 manual vs. smg and the smg was slower.

It works this way for just about every car out there.

What? Wow. What the hell is the point of an SMG then? Do you have a link to an article or something? My friend is an SMG fanboy, and his only argument is that it's faster than the manual.

And chivas, I'd beat you just because of lighter weight and gear ratio. I'm not really one to race though, my car isn't fast. And I'm sure yours is more fun to drive, mine is an auto. Just waiting for my bitch ass to finish up body work before it gets 5 speed.

I think even if auto is faster than manual/smg/dsg and the like during the acceleration (lots of muscle car drag guys use auto probably for this reason), auto will still be in the wrong gear at the wrong time at other times (autox/hpde/racing) etc...

The only reason an auto is good in acceleration is because it is always under full power, and if you have a turbo it never has to rebuild boost. This is, of course, assuming full-throttle acceleration from a standstill. Otherwise, the auto generally won't drop enough gears and won't usually run up to the redline (at least in my experience with auto e30 325iX's)
