Rear window shelf types

How many different versions are out there ? From what I understand there is an early one w/o 3rd brake light which is what I currently have. It uses two black speaker grills.

Then there are two with the 3rd brake light, one with the light mounted on top of the shelf and one under it. With or w/o premium rear speakers.

Was there ever an updated one w/o the 3rd brake light or am I dreaming ? By updated I mean the one that isn't all flat looking, with or w/o the premium sound rear speakers.

your question is worded pretty funny.

from what ive seen is that all of the flat ones are pretty much the same but have an added brake light. then the 88+ ones with the built in brake light. the rear decks ive seen and played with, they have a cut out already built in for regular speakers and the premium speakers. i added premiums in my 88 e30 and just in my 86 M535i. now the M535i has the rear deck with the built in sunshade. to bad the shade doesnt work but when it does its a really clean look.

I know the regular e30 rear decks fit like crap in the M3 (mine for ex.)

I have experience with this. I wanted to put an early one because it had no third brakelight, and that is the issue that I came across.

The seatbelts on later models go through the rear shelf. On early models they are attached on the c-pillar. It won't work.

Late models have a trapezoid brakelight that is underneath the shelf with 4 rectangle vents. Euro ones have 5 trapezoid vents.

Not sure, I had it recovered in black suede (yeah it faded) from Rob S and as a special surprise it was without the brakelight!

Any late model euro will do really.
