dude I hate to say it cause im proly gonna get ragged on but I went to uti Houston. Now it wasnt a complete waste of money I did learn alot, and I had the same idea as you to get into step. But now this is a big but PAY ATTENTION IN CLASS. I know someone with perfect grades we called him the proffesor and he failed the step test TWICE. If you really wanna get somewhere going there then work hard. I didnt try to hard went to NATT the Nissan class and now im changing oil at southpoint Nissan.I would like to say go through the regular uti program then try and work at a BMW dealership cause you problably be doing the same thing when you started even if you take step.Sorry for the rant. But I thought i would inform you before you get ideas in your head i was told somethings from the recruiter that werent exactly true.pm me if you got any questions.

I've heard from multiple tech's opinions that if you can find a good community college with a program that you'll learn just as much and save money. My friend is going to through uti's regular program then plans to work at an independent bmw shop and loves it but he's probably paying twice what my brother is doing going to the community college. The funny thing is my brother's engine rebuild teacher works for the community college and at uti and teaches the exact same thing. Many people knock uti but no one can deny that uti looks good on a resume.

Find another manufacturer to work for. BMW is getting worse and worse every day. Trying to get paid for warranty work is like pulling teeth and having to deal with PUMA for replacing parts that you know are bad is unbelievably frustrating. Seriously man, go to a BMW dealership and talk to anyone who has been doing it for more than a couple years- I guarantee you'll get a similar response.

evreything stated is true i should have gone to community college but UTI looks real good on a resume especially because they write it and make you sound LIKE A BALLER. I got my job no questions asked. And im hoping to go to Infiniti soon.

-this man speaks the truth. the days of knowing how to do your job are gone. I have been a dealer tech for 4 years now and with the new ISIS system coming out (diag shit to replace gt1) techs are going to be required to run a test plan for EVERYTHING even squeaks and rattles. they dont want the techs to be anything but button pushers and parts replacers as there are too many stupid techs out there who throw parts at cars and have fucked it up for those of us who know how to do our jobs.fuck bmw. oh and with the e30 going mobile tradition next year i think, fuck bmw again.

oh btw i went through the step program, it is a good program but really, find another profession. if you really want to work on cars go work at a dealer for a while first to make sure its the lifestyle you want. i thought its what i wanted, as I had worked on cars for a long time just not in dealers.. dealerships suck dick ( i have been to more than one as well as large and small and big cities and small)

pay depends on area.I am good at what I do but in orlando I was making (flagging 50-65 hrs a week) 65-70k a year. in north carolina (flagging 55-60hrs a week) i was making from 48k-56k. In honolulu i was flagging (70-80 hrs a week) making 70-85k. I currently am a tech in eastern north carolina making 48k. you can make more if you choose to be crooked about it or choose to be at work more than 40 hours but id rather not. people can make more and I am sure they do but the average is more like 32-45k in the south east u.s. It is entirely up to you how much you want to make. you get out what you put it. I dont have many bills so i dont have an incentive to work more than 40 hours a week other than to keep putting money away. but as a tech you reach your pay cap very quickly. I have heard of techs in miami and other such places making 100k+ a year but they are either fucking someone, not doing the work they say they are or are at work more than 50 hours a week. for me its all about staying at the very top of my tax bracket without going over while not having to be at work more than 40 hours =p

oh and you should also take into account that 2/3 of the techs i have worked with were usually alcoholics/divorced/depressed/in physical pain all the time..
