    WTF ebay ?

I put my old catalytic converter on ebay and it got deleted five days into the auction.

I put it in the section:
    Business & Industrial > Manufacturing & Metalworking > Metals & Alloys > Other Metals
In the auction body went like this:

Used BMW catalytic converter SCRAP RECYCLING ONLY

This auction is for a catalytic converter coming off of a 1988 BMW 325iS. The ends will be cut off so it will be unusable except for scrap. It will ship the Monday following the auction via USPS.

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has informed us that it is a violation of government regulation to install a used converter from a salvage yard or sell it for reuse unless it has been properly tested and labeled. Similarly it is a violation to install an untested used converter, even if the customer insists that the used converter came off his/her vehicle.
Why the hell did they delete my posting? This pisses me off. What did I do wrong?

Send Ebay an email. It could just be a glitch.

Must be a glitch because it is totally fine to sell it like you have described.

I don't know about your area, but here in the Baltimore area, we have had a large number of catalytic converter thefts. They ride the metro out to the suburbs, use portable recips to cut the cats off in the parking lots, then hop on the metro back down to the city. We call the metro the "rob-and-ride".

eBay could believe that this is possibly stolen. I would re-list it and specifically exclude anything about being re-cycled.

But I don't know, eBay's excuse seems to contradict my reasoning.

Well, I sent them an email, and I just got an automatic response that didn't tell me anything. Is there anything else I can do?

Edit: I scrolled around a little bit and found another applicable contact venue. Hopefully this one won't just send me an auto-response.

Find a local scrap yard. Not a scrap yard like a junk yard, but a place that recycles metal. They'll give you a couple bucks for it.

                          http://pages.ebay.com/help/policies/...onverters.html

That link doesn't provide much in the way of useful info for the OP.

What Blunt says is true- listen to the old fooker.

You are not allowed to state what type of vehicle the converter came from, but you can mention that it came from a european car. I guess Ebay is afraid of someone buying a used cat to reuse it- which is not likely to happen.....but thems the rulez.

Take a couple of good clear pics and repost- it'll sell for more than you might think.

Platinum/Rhodium and other precious metals prices continue to go up, and the price of used cats follows since they contain these metals.
