2 1/4 or 2.5" inch Tubular for Custom roll Cage?

I'm debate if use 2 1/4 or 2.5 for my custom roll center cage, I will fab my custom center section and don't know what size of tube to buy.

any can help me to decide, any pics would be great!!

    Thanks

I think either one of the sizes might be to thick. i thought they were more common made from 1-3/4" or something like 2", but 2" might be to big also.

According to BMWCCA Club Racing rules:

      Roll Cage Specifications

      Under 2500 lbs

      Mild Steel 1.5” x .095”

      Alloy Steel 1.375” x .095”

      Over 2500 lbs

      Mild Steel 1.75” x .095” OR 1.50” x .120”

      Alloy Steel 1.50” x .095”

The tubing type shall be DOM. ERW type tubing is not allowed.

Other components of the roll cage need not have the same diameter and wall thickness as that of the required components.

You can see diagrams etc. at their webpage: http://www.bmwccaclubracing.com/2004...0031224_1.html

I knew that when I posted. I figured that the BMW CCA would have the best recommendations from a safety standpoint for anyone building a cage, for racing or just personal safety. A cage is meant to be a functional safety device not a cool show item. To build an effective cage, I would trust the recommendations from a proven sanctioning body like the SCCA or BMW CCA.

Alloy would be a blend of steel and Mild is common rolled steel tubes.
