I'm not sure if 1991318is linked to a short leather one, but that's what I have.

I have a tall vinyl too, maybe it's possible to simply cut it down?

I've never seen a short vinyl. BTW your car is really nice and clean. Good work.

wow, i didn't know that people wanted these.
I always prefered the specially fitted feeling of the late model knobs... meh..

Me too. I've always loved the late 80s-early 2000s style OEM shift knobs, I think they're perfect.

                Good luck OP.

                  holy thread bump !

So yeah – could’ve sworn I saw one. Then when actually trying to find one, it appeared to be one of those fazed out parts.. or it didn’t seem to exist.

Then once when randomly searching ebay, a used one showed up out of the blue for like $8 and shipping. Couldn’t believe my luck. It was like finding some magical unicorn part. I guess they just aren’t popular.

Later, I picked up a used leather one and another odd blank knob (e21?)

                  Pictured (left to right)
                  Short vinyl – leather – e21

                  Here was my crazed criteria:
                  - OE look
                  - short(er)
                  - simple/understated

I wanted to go short because I was going for the shortest throw. UUC lever is also fully ‘down’. I know this goes against wisdom of a taller knob. I can see myself rocking this for a year, then going to a more-popular tall knob.

Nothing aftermarket appealed to me. Metal would be cold or hot. Leather wears out. I like certain MOMO stuff – but most of those look gay in an e30.

This is cliché- but when/if I was going to make changes in the interior, I wanted to lean back in time – rather than forward (2002 inspiration). For this reason, I wasn’t attracted to the anatomic/ergonomic knobs. I thought they looked too ‘new’ for the interior.

Something about the leather one didn’t do if for me either. Mostly, I think they’re too small.

                  Here's the short vinyl installed:

Ideally, I’d like to have that short vinyl knob with a roundel insert. Would rather look at a roundel than a shift pattern (I know where the fucking gears are). Funny thing- I actually picked up that leather knob just for its roundel insert – but the coloring on the back broke apart when I removed it. The BMW roundel shift knob insert is currently NA. If someone has one in good condition – lemmie know! Also interested in a short vinyl knob that is in ‘like new’ or NOS condition. Mine has some wear - but I am happy with it.
