working AC will improve the selling price of the car considerably. At least it would here in TX.

Get a used R12 compressor ($100) and convert the system to R-134a. it'll work just fine. I went the more expensive route and installed a new R134a compressor; it cost me a lot more and it does not perform any better. I'm guessing the condenser can't get rid of the heat fast enough or something.

Would it be a terrible idea to get a used R-12 compressor and try to refill the system with R-12 again? I would probably have to get the system checked for leaks and such; but if everything were fine, wouldn't it be cheaper to just refill the system with R-12 instead of replacing a bunch of retrofit parts only to have somewhat efficient A/C?
Also, I see that you can buy R-12 on eBay for pretty cheap. Is that legal, and if I buy some, can I have someone put it in for me?1985 325e - 5000 RPM's of FuryComment
