Another t-belt question...no spring tensioner!

Like the title says. Im changing out my t-belt and noticed that the spring isn't even where i thought i should be..actually its no where. Im not sure who changed it before me at about 80K. Im assuming that I should order one but wanted some feedback. Thanks.

I suppose in theory, since you tighten down the adjustment bolt on the tensioner you could tension it by hand.... buuuut I would order one anyways, even if only for peace of mind's sake. If something like that wasn't important BMW wouldn't have spent time to R&D/outsource the part.
