    I need your help!

Driving home from work the other day in my 325IX I got t-boned by a snow plow. Plow driver was at total fault even though he lied about the accident and tried to blame me. He ran through a yield sign when I had the right of way. I had no signs at all. Anyway the car is totaled and I'm pissed and sad at losing my car.
Now here's my problem, as many of you have probably guessed, I think the insurance company is going to lowball me on the payoff. On a side note as of yesterday, 4 days after the accident, the city had not reported the accident to their insurance company. I called my ins. co., their ins. co. , the body shop, picked up the police report and talked to a lawyer.
So what I need is proof of what these cars are worth. Mine was an 88 IX with 150,000 miles. I bought it from the original owner less than a year ago. I got all maintenance records, two sets of wheels, tool kit in trunk was intact, fresh $5800 paint job with receipts, etc. The car was like brand new until Sunday. I paid $7000 for it and it was worth every penny. I didn't really even haggle with the guy once I saw the car.
I've been looking for ads for cars of equal value to show the ins co but these are hard to come by. It took years for me to find the one I wanted. So if I could get some bills of sale for similar cars, for sale ads, and letters or whatever that shows what people pay for these it would be much appreciated.
If any of you have this stuff that you wouldn't mind sending to me I would be in your dept.
    email is chrismoore68@gmail.com

    Thanks,
    Chris Moore

This is what a 1989 2 door IX is worth in Steamboat springs with 150K. Their book doesn't go back past 1989.

Most insurance companies and car dealers use this reference for older cars that are not in the black book.

    Good Luck ...

I think I didn't quite explain myself well enough. I am aware of nada, edmunds and kbbs idea of what the value of my car is. I am looking more for real world values of the car. What people are selling and paying for these cars. Mine was in excellent shape in general, much less for a 20 year old car.

      Thanks for the response though.

I think you're screwed.. that's is the reason I don't even bother buying collision coverage for mine. I know it would be worthless. Unless you insure it for a specific amount (say $7000), insurance on a nice e30 specimen is not worth it.

On a similar note.. some guy hit my brother's e30 while parked in front of the house and thus was fully liable for damages (according to michigan law). His insurance payed the bluebook for it... $2600. The car was a 89 325i, at 135k miles and in good shape.

My lawyer actually told me to find the real world values of these cars. He said that government insurance companies are actually pretty easy to deal with and they will look at any info I can come up with. My "lawyer" is a friend who is a lawyer and isn't technically representing me but just giving advice. I just didn't want anyone thinking that I'm flying off the handle and trying to take advantage. I just want a reasonable value for my loss.

Max ive seen any E30 go for blue book wise is $4k. Your car was probably worth $3k-3.5k. With that said, insurance wont cover bells and whistles (pimp rims for example).

I will tell you what I tell everyone that has their car fubared beyond normal repair. They will total your car, you pay the buy back fee, part your car, get a fresh e30 and have a day. You might even make money off of it.

            Status: HG repair. 488wtq though!

I understood you were looking for going market values of your car. But honestly you will get a offer of what the car is valued at in the guides they go by, and maybe a bit more, but highly unlikely you will get payoff for it. The difference of payoff you will probably have to sue the company/government/operator who was operating the plow. Insurance companies could careless if it had a new 5K paint job new wheels/tires etc etc... All they will see is a 1988 325ix with 150k period.

              Good Luck

i disagree. i put my car into a curb in some sand about 2 months after i got it. it was a bone stock 87 325is with 160k on it. real clean but nothing special as far as a car goes. i hadnt done a thing to it and in fact the car had no bumpers on it as i was tucking and painting them. i tweaked the right front strut, right rear trailing arm and both wheels. by the time the dealership ended up replacing everything (they do shit in pairs so i got new strut housings new wheel bearings all around and new stock basketweaves the total bill was 5800.00. the insurance company originally offered 3k. by the time i was done i got the 5800.00 and avoided a salvage title. granted this was 6 years ago but the point is dont settle for pennies of what your car is worth. but be realistic too. i brought in examples of e30's selling from 5k to 25k. i dont know if any old school dudes remember pics of a red 20k mile e30 parked in a parking garage that some dude was trying to get 25k for about 6 years ago but that was one of the cars i used as an example

Chris, I sent you an email, but in case you didn't get it check out this car on eBay. It sounds like it might be fairly close to what your car was and it's already at $5700 with 2 days left.

                    Good luck,

                    Tim
