    Am I screwed?

I just bought an '88 325is, should be here in a few weeks. It has a Dinan chip that recommends 93 octane.

Here in OK, the best we get anymore is 91, I'm stuck running some octane boost until I can get a new chip, or will the computer compensate?

You're not screwed, you just won't get the absolute best performance with that ECU setup. everything will work fine, though, especially if the Dinan chip 'recommends' 93 octane or higher.

just a heads up... the motronic system doesn't include a knock sensor so it can't adjust for fuel grade. Be careful and listen for knock/ping while on throttle. I had that dinan chip but we have 93 octane so i never tested it with less.

Just go buy an EAT chip tuned for 91 and sell that Dinan chip on Ebay or whatever. I don't think it will be that big a deal if you drive it normally until the new chip arrives.

Don't think I have any digi pics of it. I sold it in the fall of 2001, couldn't afford to maintain anymore being in college.

Lots of time and money went into that car, I'll eventually get another one.........when I have the time and money to deal with the rear suspension.

                        Alright, two follow up questions.

                        1. Is it worth the effort/time to put a header on the M20 (already has a track pipe and Dinan exhaust and K&N cone filter)
                        2. Mark D or Jim Conforti chip?

There isn't any info on their site about it, but I seem to remember reading that Dinan chips were tuned for 91 octane...

If you opt for the now popular and cheap shorter headers it is pretty much a waste if you are looking for power gains .
But it will sound nice .
Go long tube style or don't bother .

I would go with a Mark D chip these days since he's an E30 owner and is still developing new products for our cars .
And he surf's a few of the boards as well .
