No one ever let me paint anything ever again.

I totally suck balls at it. I somehow messed up shadowlining my kidney so badly last night that i threw it in the trash and ordered an all black one. My is spoiler also looks like shit - but we'll see how my 535is wing turns out - it may still be okay.

Any tips on painting shit? I've read it all already - but i somehow still do it wrong.

What kind of defects are happening? Fisheyes, dull texture, runs and sags, orangepeel?

add four times as mush time to complete any task. If it's gonna take 30 min to do, dont lay paint for 2 hours. I have to control my ADD whenever I paint.

Runs and sags - but I'm laying the paint on in very thin layers. I'm going to wetsand the bad part of the 535is spoiler and spray it again and see if it does me any good. The rest looks pretty good.

Are you prepping the area ok? Are you letting the paint dry inbetween coats?

Make sure you prep chrome by sanding it applying a couple coats of self etching primer.

if you're painting vertical surfaces (like on the kidney) you need to apply paint very sparingly and from far away to avoid runs. I know it has a lot of tricky crevices, but you just need to angle yourself correctly to get down inbetween them, and don't be tempted to do heavy coats. Just gotta have patience and do a little at a time. Also, allow at least 10 minutes between coats and you should be good.

You using a gravity feed or HVLP gun, or are you just spraybombing it?

Might want to try at least 3 double jack and cokes before starting. If you have more during the painting process, and once you get done it will look fine and honestly you could careless at that point. Plus you will be crossed eyed enough that it will look fine until the next day. You can continue this trend the next day but will soon be a alcoholic so be careful with substance abuse. You know the drill...

No really, painting is something that just takes practice. PREP PREP PREP and do not rush the process. Make sure the temperatures are good too, 55+ is preferred. When it is cold out just forget about it. If you are spraybombing it get at least a quality paint product and not that .99 cent a can shit. HVLP is where it is at though.

My problems occurred with sem trim paint - 60 degreed outside. I sanded the surface with 700 grit - washed it with mild soap and let it dry. I sprayed a few coats of self etching primer then painted with sem. I probably rushed it a bit - I'm pretty impatient.

Got to go slow. The part you are painting shouldn't be fully covered until the 3rd coat of paint. And don't spray from too far away or the paint will partially dry in mid are and leave a texture on the part you are painting. 10"-13" is ideal for a spray can usually. Use your best judgment.

And when spraying, move past the part by a couple of inches on each side. This prevents excess paint from building up when you change directions. Also, don't just hold down the nozzle and spray back and forth. You want to let off each pass at the end. Then press back down as you move, not before. You just got to get a rhythm going.

Seriously I paint shit all the time, I never do light coats, I rarely sand anything, I usually just wash and blast with some spray paint. I only recently had a right grill piece come out looking like shit. Dont paint when its cold. Dont paint like a retard. Use nice strokes. It's all about technique.

I'm sure you'll all see my results on the 535 spoiler soon. the thing is a piece of shit anyways - so its not a big deal. But I'm pissed about tossing my grill out. Either way - a new black kidney and euro grills are on the way - along with smoked euro elips.

You HAVE to let each layer dry in the sun for about 5-10 minutes before putting another layer on...

i hope you didnt get the crap kind with the huge piece of plastic behind the kidneys, looks like butt. Im sure that the paint problem can be fixed though, one of the very few things you can do to your car that is easily repairable
