    Question About Lowering

    Hey guys,

I want to make about a 1.5" drop, not really for performance purposes. What's the best kit to get? And noob question, if I just want to lower the car, do I still purchase the springs and the shocks? Or just the springs? I was reading on the past threads and someone said something about "If you just want to lower it, I'd just go for the H&R cup kit". Can someone expain to me what the cup kit does? Any other suggestions would be appreciated as well, thank you.

So if I just want to lower it, I should get the H&R cup kit? Is there some other brand that I should get instead?

*EDIT* Is the drop adjustable on the kit? Also, if I do get the kit, does it have to be specificly made for the BMW E30 318IS? I looked on EBAY and stuff like that, and when they were describing it, it was for a specific model and stuff. Does it have to be specific for the 318IS E30?

no, a 318is will fit any e30 springs and shocks.

I run a cup kit in my 318is

Not adjustable, only mock-coilovers will do that and the most popular one for the E30 is Ground-Control.

Rob, can you post a picture of your car front a side angle? Thank you.

Also, if someone can post a picture of a car with a Ground Control kit. Thanks.

search members rides for my car. Ground controls are height adjustable, so the pictures vary greatly

                  here's Rob's car:

I have GC's - front too low, rear too high - whenever I get around to it, I'll adjust them.

                  Jay's E30 with GC's

You can really adjust your suspension where you want it, depending on spring heights. My rear is all the way up, and Jay's front is all the way down. (But he doesn't have camber plates, which drop the car lower) I believe my front will go lower, if memory serves right.

Okay, thanks guys. How much is the H&R cup kit and the GC kit each approximately? Does the GC kit contain both shocks and springs? I like the GC kit because I can just adjust it to my preference, but depending on the price compared to the H&R, then my decision might change.

the GC kit only consists of springs and ride height adjusters
for $399...you'll have to drop close to another $600 for bilstein
                      sports or koni adjustables...

Noobie question here: WIth the GC kit that only comes with the adjustable springs, is it necessary to get some new shocks as well if I install the GC kit? Because that $600 extra bucks really frightens me.
