    Catalytic Converter

So, I learnt that you can get mega$$$ for cats to scrap them.

I'm doing a swap, eta to i, and I need a full exhaust system for my swap since they differ in the way they're built.

If you can get above $150 for a cat for scrap, then doesn't that mean that that's the minimum you can simply buy one for? Because if it were any lower, the seller "loses money"

Shit, I need a different cat, one from an i or is, not the eta one with my M20B25.

What do I do, just suck it up and pay a shit-ton for part of the exhaust system since they have potential values?

Someone explain it all to me. Thanks.

Buy a Magnaflow with the spoils of selling your stock one and pocket the difference. Should cost you around $70 to your door. Or buy the section from the I heads to the cat, install a Y pipe, and run the stock ETA cat and single pipe out the back.

Just buy a aftermarket hi-flow cat if you want to run a cat on your car. I wouldn't worry about it having to be a OEM BMW piece.

I would of been selling it to you at a loss of almost 150$ when I quoted you at 150$ for my cat. I would rather see someone make something usefull from my cat insted of it getting ground up and sold to make more cats.

I'm doing a swap and I just, for now, don't like having "aftermarket" things on my car, I really like the all-original, oem feel. I didn't know they were so damn expensive, I live in Michigan where you HAVE to have a cat or the gov. will slit your throat.

If anyone wants to sell one, it'll probably be real expensive.

BTW, I have from the 3-bolt flange after the cat on back, in terms of the i exhaust.

I have the i manifold, so ALL I NEED IS FROM AFTER THE MANIFOLD TO RIGHT AFTER THE CAT WHERE IT BOLTS UP JUST BEFORE THE STOCK RESONATOR. At this point is the 3-bolt flange of which I speak.

If you must have OEM, maybe you'll get lucky and find someone like me who gave away a whole "i" exhaust system for free. But i doubt that will happen anytime soon. Post a WTB ad in the classified part on here to see what comes up.

I have the midpipe and stock cat you want, but I'm not going to sell the cat for less than I can get it on eBay for. I have no idea how you'd possibly be able to tell the difference between OEM and aftermarket catalytic converter. It's not like anyone can see it behind the heat shield.

That said, if you really want OEM, expect to pay $150 or better. That's what OEM cats go for on eBay now.

Shit, I'm going to be removing mine when I revamp my exhaust system. It's nice owning a residence on this side of the mountains, they don't require emissions and it's cheap as hell for tabs every year.

Man, are you serious? I threw mine away, I cut off up until the cat, but still.

Don't laugh. That's happened to a few cars around here. Mostly trucks and taller SUVs cause the dirtbag can easily crawl under to get to the exhaust.
