    Overheating Help

I have a overheating problem (89 325i) It started late one night while sitting in a drive thru line. It almost got into the red. as soon as I got my food, I took off. The temp went back down to normal instantly. The next day and there after it will get hot unless moving at a good speed or the revs are up. I replaced the coolant temp sensor and ordered a thermostat. But I need to use the car so i put it together without the t-stat. I bled the system and took it for a test drive. It almost hit red really fast. I sprinted home. I felt no coolant or pressure in the hoses. then I took the coolant tank cap off. It was like a hot fire hose, I looked muddy. The fan clutch seems good. I'm frustrated, this is my second E30. My first on I had for 3 years with no problems at all. I recently moved to LA so I bought my second E30. Ever since I've had this one its been nothing but problems, But the body is in great shape. The PO said that he there was a blown head gasket so he had the head reconditioned and reinstalled, with new timing belt, tensioner, and water pump. Any Ideas would be appreciated thanks guys.

    well.
    1. Is your heat working when the car is overheating?
    2. How crappy looking is your radiator?
    3. Specifically, how did you test your fan clutch?
    4. Is your ELECTRIC fan kicking on at 1/2 and highspeed at 3/4 temp?

The PO bypassed the heater core due to it leaking. The radiator looks brand new. I did the newspaper test on the fan, and the electric fan does not come on regardless of the temp or with the AC on.
