haha, Mike325 and I had this idea that BMW labor should have a "Northeast" adjustment in labor time. Rust complicates everything, even on new-ish cars. It can only get worse with BMW using Zn plated fasteners because of RoHS regulations banning Cd plating.

BTW I am just a lowly occasional home mechanic, and I can't imagine having to work on POSs all day long, especially if it involves snaking my hands underneath any new BMW intake manifold to screw with crap all day long.

from his persona on the board it would appear he enjoys it. you cant argue with success

OK, so you have a 6 week training course, how long is STEP and do you work at a dealer while going through it?
I am here in Germany, and here they do it apprentice style. I am on a 3.5 year deal, 1 week every month we go to school. every year we have a large test and tons inbetween, and at the end of the 3 years, "all pretty detailed "general mechanics are taught" if we pass the large test at the end, we are a "licensed mechanic"
I just got lucky enough to get in at the BMW dealer here, but in my class it is people from all different dealers/indi shops.
after my schooling of 3.5 years, if the dealer keeps you here, then you go to the "BMW courses" through BMW deutschland at one of their schools.

I enjoy it, but you def. wont get rich in germany working as a mechatroniker "mechanic/electrician"
