Do you have a roll cage/roll bar in your car??

    Hi guys..

I am interested in a "semi" roll cage.. something that goes just in the back.. like this:

If anyone has something similar in his car.. can you post a picture.

I just want to see how it will look.

Be prepared to be ambushed with pictures.

A good percentage of the guys on here have caged or half caged their cars.

    I know I want to!!

Redbull: That is exactly what I am looking for... that looks very nice!

I have gotten a price from a guy here in iceland that makes roll bars.. around 750$ for a custom roll bar/half cage. Doesn't sound to bad...

But what do you guys think.. try to make it fit with the rear seats or take them out and just put a new carpet on the back?

I really want a bar but I don't want to pay 700 bucks and then wait 6 weeks. Is that the only option? Does anyone have them fabed locally? Is that a bad idea.

There is this shop close to me in SO Cal that makes roll cages for trucks but they offered to do mine. They were shooting for about 1400 for a full weld in cage with frame mounts through the fire wall and crossbars on the doors and then obviously the full interior cage. I havenet yet committed because that's a lot of money.

They would probably do a half cage in the 600 to 800 dollar range. I think if anything I would go that route.

Oh, the name of the shop is BONEYARD. They have a website but I don't know the exact URL. Check them out. Maybe I can give them some E30 measurements dem another company and see what they come up with.

How does one change the image display from a link, to the image itself?

I paid that much for a full-bolt on cage (less freight). That's retail prices over here.

$750 is not too bad- especially if it includes installation.. As far as the rear seat- if your current rear seat is nice and in good shape, just pull it out and see if you can find a different seat back from a junkyard or parts car that's the same color- and then you can modify that one to fit the rear bars. The early seats seem to be easier to work with- the type with the metal frame and springs in them- because you can bend the metal around the bars.

As far as "local" options, check around some of the race car shops in the RIC area- maybe head out to Southside Speedway and ask around in the pits for some ideas (they DO still race roundy-round out there, don't they????).......

It's time consuming and expensive to build a proper roll bar that fits well- so don't expect to save tons of $$$ over buying one prebent from Autopower or Kirk- but you should be able to save at least a little bit.

                      Bret.

I've got a kirk bolt in roll bar in my 85 325e and love it. But I just use the car for DE's and occasional mtn drives.
