    Question on 6speed transmissions

What 6speed transmissions exist for BMW's? How much do they cost? Which are compatible with M50, M20, and M42 engines?

Any of the 6 speeds for 3 series car (E36 and E46) will work with M5x engines. Zionsville has kits out there to get them to work. Nothing will work with an M20 AFAIK. Why do you want a 6?

The only 2 I would recomend getting would be the euro e36 6-speed or its updated version the e46 M3 6speed (getrag s6s-420g)

you can find the e46 version for $1500-$2000. It will bolt to an m50 and an m42

the zionville kit uses the z4/330i ZF 6-speed which is usually considered a pretty poor trans. If you are going to spend the money I would spend a lil extra fo the bomb proof getrag

FWIR Beir said the e46 getrag was same as the Supra trans, and 800hp supras can run with it.

for those who have done this swap, how much did you cut off your drive shaft? I know that the EVO E36 will work but i have a drive shaft shop that will cut and balance mine for a reasonable cost so all i need to know is what to cut.

Just out of curiosity, what engine are you going to be using your 6-speed with? I don't have an answer on your question though :(

I have a friend who has a E30 with a m52 2.8L swap and a E46 M3 six speed we are putting in this week.

                        The S50 6spd isn't nearly as strong as the E46 6spd.

It's a pretty common mod in the Euro S50B32 world to swap the 6spd to the S50B30 5spd.

Would any of these 6-speeds work with the M42? I'm trying to get my highway revs a bit lower without losing what acceleration I have ;)

EDIT: lol, I feel stupid. Thanks Ray :)

driveshaft from bimmerworld was around $350ish if i remember correctly... They will need to know the model of trans, the model diff, that its an e30(if it is), and a measurement from the trans output flange to the diff input flange.
