Maybe just take this oppertunity to upgrade your amp for about the same price?Originally posted by cabriodster87"Honey? What color is this wire? Is it the same as that one? Are you sure? Looked into it. Something about those car with the premium stereo. No real way around it without spending the same amount of money to change everything out. Its not my car otherwise I would rip everything out and go custom or just deal with it I dont care too much about having a stereo. Guess Imma call around to custom shops tomorrow and see if they have take offs.sigpic

In San Diego, call La Jolla Audio and see if Scott Cairncross is still around.
Why the hell are you looking for one anyway, is his dead?
If you want to go aftermarket, I have an excellent 4 channel amp for pretty cheap, but you would need to wire in crossovers, as the stock amp handles crossover functions on that car.

It has to be stock. Something about crossovers and DSP and some other stuff. And I guess its a problem with those things dying on these cars. If I knew it would be so much problems I would have told her to go buy a new one from bmw at $750.
Luke thanks for the info, Imma call them right now and see what he could do. Otherwise we will see about riggin something up. But the mini forums seems to think its either impossible or very hard to bypass the factory amp and it will end up costing the same amount of money in the end.sigpic

Oh yeah, trust me, bypassing the stock is NOT what I recommend, but sometimes people have their reasons.
Cobbling together passive crossovers is fun for a freak like me, but I would be willing to bet the correct values are not gonna be available off the shelf, so it would be custom built all the way. I can do that shit in my sleep, so can a handful of others on this planet, but still a raging pain in the butt.
I wonder if the E39 amp I have sitting around would work/be the same?
I worked for Scott about 20 years ago...great guy, one of the best mentors I have ever had. I hope his shop is still doing well, but this industry sucks ass.

looked around and they said no other BMW amp would work. things pretty cool though I think its a 6 or 8 speaker setup in that and I could touch all the speakers from the drivers seat so they surround you pretty well.
Scotts shop is closed today but I will call back on Monday cause the mini dismantler I called seemed too busy to help.
Your the man when it comes to this stuff Luke, next time your down here you gotta do my E34. the stock harness is all screwed up and I can't get any sound from the back speakers and all kinds of problems. Imma go CD400 or maybe keep it clean with a CD43 and get all new wires and speakers.sigpic

That would be awesome, you should do good out here. Most of the shops Ive seen that has good fabricators seem to only want to throw in a bunch of JL subs and 3-4 Optima batteries. All I want is a clean nice sounding system. I do listen to more than rap.
I will definately get my E34 done there, I can wait a year or two too.sigpic

I am a SD native: Grew up on Diamond Street in PB, then moved to Santee just in time to attend Grossmont HS in Lame-esa, then off to Michigan, blah blah blah, but as an adult, mostly North County.
Dad still lives in Escondido, but I am not willing to live there, so further north I will be.
Thanks for the props, mang.
