Since when is M20 a non-interference engine though ? If that was the case then M20s wouldn't require a rebuild when t-belt goes... hmmm

    - EDIT - nevermind if the internals aren't stock lol

Not to steal Chris' glory - but yes, it's his pistons. He's got the metric mechanic pistons with the hella deep valve-pockets.

        Damn you nandooooooo >.<

Alex, I thought about our conversation when we were working on it. I will e-blame you for jynxing my motor. In all honesty, the belt lasted me much less than I expected. Maybe it was the constant drifting use, maybe it was a manufacturer defect (although unlikely), but the head itself is pretty toast. I can't rebuild this head. At least not at a price that's worth it anyways.

Freshen up the new motor with gaskets (and a new timing belt/water pump) and we'll go from there.

Oh, I'd also like to add to the irony of it all that Elliot gave me a "check engine light" sticker to put on my windshield on Saturday, when we started working on the car and had not finished (or stopped) until 11am on Sunday. Damn near 24hours spent on wrench time, STRAIGHT!

In that meantime, my buddy had to hunt for transistors TWICE because something was shorting out and blowing the MS3.0 board. After resoldering all of that, we re-did the MS harness entirely (every single connection), and then we went ahead and found out about the timing belt.

          Yay fun. :p

Yep, he has the same pistons that I do, and they are very deep valve pockets.

Really. My dad was telling me when the m20 came out that they recommended like 65k intervals or something. After they replaced a dozen or so engines that gave way at 50-60k they started recommending 3 years or 45k miles. Now a vdub timing belt last a long time compared to an m20.
