    It just happened

I done blown my m20. Right before the drift event too.

All my fault though. I slacked on the timing belt replacement and it went. Oddly enough it snapped cranking up after sitting for about a week. To make it even more interesting, no rockers broke either. I replaced the t-belt and the car still fired up with all cylinders breathing (although the intake valve on number #5 is very bad)

I still got to slide around a few cars (courtesy of a few buddies and the shop who built my new intake manifold), which made up for the crappy night.

We had the illustrious company of T.J., Billy and Elliot (e30trash) who drove all the way from GA to take pictures of my dirty car in a bright ass paint booth and witness an M20 go.

Let's see how quickly I can get this back up. I got an event in two weeks again.

Damn. Sorry to hear. I'm super nervous about mine too. The previous owner didn't know when it was last changed. Parts are in the mail though! Are you going to fix the M20?

                Erick - you NEED a turbo m30 :D

bummer - at least stock M20s are cheap. an M30 swap would be neat but trying to do an engine swap + a turbo with a 2 week deadline would be a bad idea.

                  that said, non-interference M20s FTW ;)

I would just keep a couple ready because with the strain you'd put on that motor with drifting it will wear faster.

We were up all god damned night trying to start the car, and at about 6:30am they figured out it was the timing belt.

It was a fun night though. Erick already has another M20 to put in the car so it's not a huge set back.

What does interference mean when it comes to motors? I've never heard that term before this weekend.

non-interference engines don't hit the valves on the piston faces when a timing belt/chain goes.

That was my guess. Nando, are you saying your M20 is non-interference? Is it your pistons?
