It will be over $350, and that's if he "gives" you the car.

^yeah, so that alone brings my cost up to 1200, and its a car that needs engine work. I am a bit mechanically inclined but at 1k more, i will be buying a car close to 2500. I wish i had just bought Ben's car.

You won't be able to register the car without valid smog in CA

        Something to think about.

The state has a buy back program for cars that won't pass if you have owned the car for the previous year or two and smog is due, so he might be better off going that route.

But be forewarned that you won't be able to register it without that smog cert.

Make sure there are no back fee's due and/or penalty's either as that can be quite expensive when it comes time to change ownership/register the car.

Personally, I would run, not walk away from this car. Too many red flags.

Yeah, I'm starting to run away from this deal. I'm pretty sure I need to spend A LOT of money just so I can run this car and not have cops pestering me. I just need to find a nice e30 around my area.

VacMan: Thanks for the heads up, but unfortunately I'm looking for a 2dr sedan. I might take a look at it though, a 4dr may be a good idea also.

4 door weighs only a bit more and the tradeoff is being able to load things and people more easily. Definitely find the car you want, but don't write off the 4 door just because it's a sedan. Oh, and a 4 door has shorter front doors, which makes it easier to get in and out of in tight spots. :)
