    what is my next car

alright this summer (if i make enough money) i will likely buy myself a second car

here are the things i know i want
    -early euro chrome bumpers
-alpina front valence (yes im making a plow)
    -single stage black
-badass, just about everything will be blacked out with either red or grey accents
    -24v swap
    -5 lug

    so my top choices are
-another e30 -> i know my way around these things and they are fun to drive, fairly light 24v has been done and documented so it would be an easier swap, would have to swap in 5 lug

-e24 -> land shark badassedness, i dont know about them as well as e30s parts seem harder to find, unsure if 24v has been done or not and if it would be enough power to make it fun (likely an s52, which is more powerful than m30), heavier car so inherintly worse mileage, but damn they look so badass, initial cost?

so which would you get? if youve driven an e24 what is your opinion of them?

        You have an E30.

Why not go for something different?

        My two cents.

e24s are very disappointing, they feel like boats compared to e28s which share the same chassis. There really is no upside except that are mean looking cars. If I were you I would pick up a 540i, they are pretty cheap now and a nice contrast to e30s.

I like the e24 idea. But how about a e21 with this set up you want to do?

e34? that was another thought i had but gas mileage is somewhat playing to my decision and i dont think a v8 would help with that (i also toyed with the idea of putting an m60b40 into an e24)

e21s crossed my mind too and they can look pretty awesome but for me an e21 really looks its best with a widebody kit on it and i dont know if i could work that out

edit: id also like to add onto my original post that this car will be mostly street car but as my current car is a vert and i cant do any driving schools/ track days im relying on this car to fulfill that part with an occasional trip to a track

Based on what you just said, another E30.

E24s are boats, as stated previously.

you are probably right, i dont really want to drive a boat around

                      time will tell i guess

                      more opinions?

The e34 540i6 is actually a pretty amazing car. If you're good with maintenance and are conscious about the way you drive decent milage is obtainable... much better than the e24. My dad had an e34 535i, probably about the same weight as a 635i (same engine) and he AVERAGED 17mpg. About 19 highway, and 15 city. In my 540i6, on a road trip, I could get 26-27mpg at 75mph, and i was pretty much at 19-20mpg in the city, unless i floored it everywhere, in which case I would get 15 or so.

                        If you're looking for a 24v e24, look no further than the.... M6! OMG S38 has 24 vales??!!!!1?! Yeah.

My cabby was awesome on gas after the m50 swap. With the e36 tranny and 2.93 diff, I was doing about 24mpg city, and 32 highway. I didn't get to accurately measure the economy of it after I put the 260 and 3.73 back in, but I'd assume the highway to be similar, and city to be in the 21 range.

I wouldn't do a 24v swap to an e30 again unless it were at least a 3.0. If its just a stock s50, you sould get similar milage as the m50, and the acceleration is obviously much better.

If I were looking old school, I'd probably rock a mk1 or mk2 diesel rabbit. Those things are bad ass. Make it euro as shit, and get 50mpg. Then you can 24v your cabby.

If you're set on a "toy" though, it'd be a tough call for me. The e34 with sport seats is hands down the most comfy car i've been in. Lots of leg room, just room in general, the seats hold you nicely, and its a blast to drive. If you save your money and buy a nice one... one that needs nothing and has an alusil motor, I think that would be a good choice.

24v e30s are nice, but when it comes down to the little stuff... like being crammed into the cockpit, not having a working econometer, lack of sound deadening its definately a less refined option.

im not really crammed into the cockpit, im quite a small guy (5'11"-6' 145lb curb)
s50 or s52 is what im lookin for in a 24v, hell i might go crazy and get a euro s50
cabin noise is what i love about the s50/2 they just sound so mean
the e34 info is interesting to me, i will definitely keep it in mind and maybe try to get behind the wheel of one

im workin on landing myself a co-op for this summer and 2 alternating semesters, so far ive applied the hell out of bmw manuf havent gotten a reply from them yet, ive also sent my resume to a few other more local places, and i have an almost guaranteed backup (at 15.50 an hour base) so ill be making more money than ive ever made before and i wont know what to do with myself

                            Buy gold.

That way when the dollar completely flops you'll be able to move to canada or mexico.

                            I'm only partially joking.
