    80's 190E 2.3-16 advert...

Here's a pretty cool advertisement for the 190E 2.3-16. If that's a "four cylinder, sixteen valve jewel of an engine," I wonder what that makes the S14, :).

    Here.

It's interesting to see how some older advertisements portray performance vs. more recent portrayal of performance.

funny how the ad says, "and the rest is performance history...or soon will be."

Being a 190e owner myself make me kinds laugh at this. The 2.3-16v was Mercedes' answer to the S14 which is far fetched in itself but what really makes me laugh was this engine was their answer to the S14 but they put that motor in a car that weighed almost 100s of pounds more than the M3. It seems that they really didn't think about power to weight when they were assembling that car to perform against the M3.

I do like the body style of the 2.3-16v though. When done right they look sexy as hell.

"And even an aerodynamic rear wing...." ZOMG!!

I've driven a couple, cool cars, but nothing like the E30 M3.

Well put, they really don't match up. Now the 2.5-16v EVO3, that's a good comparision. I'd you haven't are one. Google it.

I like how 190s used old ass a-arm truck suspension and a steering box.

              Both FTL.

Edit: However, I remember having a discussion about e30s vs 190s with my buddy (he's all into 190s) and he said back in the 80s when the 16v and the e30 m3 were competing bmw said "if that mercedes rear wing does anything, we will have to re-design our wind tunnel" shortly after, bmw redesigned their wind tunnel.

Never verified if that was true, maybe someone here knows.

                e39 m5's have a steering box...

its amazing how many parts really are interchangeable between the 190 and e30. A buddy out in California is building his 16v motor using an s14 crank and other m3 parts. his suspension(coilovers) are from an m3. plus other little goodies.

thats the ultimate blasphemy, you may not use bmw parts in a merc or the other way around

thats like using ford parts in a chevy i just wont have it

No BS flag. He works at RMS doing CNC machining for their supercharger install stuff.

havent talked to him in a while as i dont have his phone number, nor have I been to LA in a long time.

OK - that sounds plausible. If he is going to rework the entire crank. You made it sounds as if it "drops right in"

i dunno, havent seen the project in about 6 months. I believe it is a pretty close fit tho, i would need to see side by side comparisons and measurements.
