    Heel-Toe

How long did it take you guys to get good at heel toe shifting in and out of corners?

    AND
I've been reading about how heel toe works, but I've seen some sites that just tell you to blip the gas while in neutral while the clutch is still in, while I've seen others suggest double clutching as well.

Are both right? Are there different applications for both?

And what exactly is happening in rev matching VS double clutching?

Now me and the mad scientist gotta rip apart the block, and replace the piston rings you fried. You're lucky you didn't blow the welds on the intake.

I learned from this video, and it took me a good two hours to get it down...

Ill pray for your brakes and clutch tonight my friend.

rev matching= steping on gas while clutch is in, so that when clutch is releaced (lower gear) the engine will be spinning at the rpm as the transmission.

now double clutching that i have been explained meny ways... and from what all ive seen the end result is a dead clutch..

        Id rather do brakes.

Since I have clown shoes, size 13 feet, I can't move my feet around like in the video above, so I rest the left part of my right foot on the brake and when I need to blip the throttle I roll the right part of my right foot on the gas pedal. Works fine for me on the street and track.

Not a bad video, I wasn't expecting the Mr. Rogers narration... or the 996TT to take it.

Double clutching is for transmissions without syncros, i.e. semi trucks. Thats the only time i double clutch (yes, i have/do drive truck)

That's the way I do it and I have normal sized feet.

Double clutching really isn't needed unless you are going into first.

                    ^ah. finally. an answer.

I understand the whole process, I just wanted to know when/if double clutching was necessary.

So blipping the gas while in N will prevent unloading of the suspension?

then when IS double clutching used?

When I heal toe with my semi large feet I have the brake at about the arch of my foot an use my toe on the upper portion of the throttle. I am trying to get something a bit more comfortable so I dont have to have my right foot so far off the floor board as it takes a second to get my foot in to place before the shift.

Edit I know I do it backwards. the other way in the e30 anyway is just uncomfortable.

I taught myself to double-clutch just for the heck of it. I never use it now. Heel and toe came about 2 months after I got my driver's liscense. Now I heel-toe all the time, but not the way they do in the video. I use half of my foot on the brake and the other half on the gas. It is a lot more precise for low-rev rev matching, and I can slide my foot over if I need more braking power. On the autocross, I double-clutch into first because my synchro is shot, but my feet are almost too big to heel and toe the "right" way.

I think I started heel/toeing just as a fidget from boredom.

I've noticed a difference on the pedal heights on many different BMW's. I theorize that there is a reason for this, something to do with each car's respective power band...
Not that I care, of course.

It's best to start with just rev-matching without using the clutch at all. Once you get a feel for that, rev matching with the clutch will be simple...then learn heel-toe. Cloverleaf ramps are a good spot to practice.... A race track is ideal for learning heel-toe, threshold, and trailbraking.
