    I'm not a welder, so the shop is definitely going to have to do that.
    I trust them, though, so I don't mind. Your subframe is CLEAN! I just know that I'm going to have to sand and POR 15 it one of these days.

          acid dip and galvanize it. :D

          I will do my next one(s) that way. Toying with the idea of having the tabs milled and selling pre-made subframes since there seems to be plenty of people who want them but don't want to do the work on them.

          por 15 doesn't work, this stuff does. Just scrub off the rust and spray a coat or two, then normal paint.



          PS, don't fix ALL of your oil leaks or the car will start to rust, oil leaks are what saved my car. ;)

            I'll easily have 100+hours into the car before it's 'finished'. Time or money, pay one.

            Fuck man, I gotta go that within the next 2 weeks. But I just want to do my project car properly so I have something to be proud of.

              I have used POR-15 in a couple muscle car restorations. It is a great product, will hold up to anything.

                Nope :)

                Just a 70's truck that was painted 20 years ago, each panel used a different product (primer/sealer only, no paint on top) the only panels that are not rusty are dupont variprime, rustolem red and crc zinc, the rest are all bubbling/peeling. It's very likely they improved things in the past 20 years, but hell if it worked before most members here were born it will surely still work today. :)

                The best thing to do is just use some normal paint and keep after it, powder coat is the worst once it gets scratched/chipped rust/moisture get trapped under the coating until it all chips off. fwiw the frame of this truck was powder coated and is a complete mess now.

                  Sounds like a pretty normal experience to me. Anybody buying one of these cars, unless they are getting it from somebody they know has done all of this work, should budget at least another $1000 for basic maintenance parts. Water pumps, thermostats, timing belts, various attachment hardware and seals, all the bushings, probably shocks and springs, wheels, tires, and other basic items like all the fluids and filters. Once all that is done, then go after the style and visual mods as the budget allows.
                  Check out my blog for some of the normal crap you run into. PO's can be really stupid and will cause you a lot of extra work by using the incorrect hardware, over torquing and stripping bolts and nuts, and generally not fixing leaks.

                    I don't follow how that led you to the conclusion that POR-15 doesn't work. You don't even mention if it was used in the first place. Why spread misinformation as fact when you know nothing about the subject matter in the first place?

                    If it was used on the panels, which I highly doubt, it is not a topcoat. It is uv sensitive and is meant for underside/interior/frame.

                    As for chipping... it doesn't chip. I have beaten dents out of por-15'd floor pans without leaving a single scratch. We coated a pipe and would let customers hit it with a sledge hammer to show them how durable it was...

                    Do you even know what POR-15 is or are you completely talking out of your ass?

                      I've used POR-15 on many things without ever having any issues... unless I wanted to sand it off after... which provided to be a huge pain in the ass.

                          It was used on a fender which got scratched and has rust forming underneath the coating, kind of like powdercoat does. Keep in mind this was the formula of 20years ago as I mentioned!
