They're fun cars to daily drive, but don't expect to impress people with it stock. That being said, I enjoy it more then my 325is.

I'm not really an aggressive driver, so I rarely found myself reaching 4.5k RPM where it really starts to get fun in the iS anyways. The SETA power range fit my style perfect.

You can't just do a 2.7i conversion on any 2.7i car. The only Etas that can take the I-topend and do the "2.7i conversion" are the 88 Eta's.
Please, stop spreading misinformation.
If you wanted to be accurate - you'd tell him to do the "2.7i conversion" correctly on his car, he'd have to do a bunch of headwork to allow the engine to rev high - because the I topend will only make the motor have a lower compression, definitely not giving him that power.
Oofie - to answer your question - get the ES, buy a chip, and call it good. It will be fun when autocrossing.
what are u talking about???? my freind did the 327i conversion using 86 325e, 2.7e block (bottom) and 325i topend . u just have to get the wiring harnnes or get the 2.7i conversion chip (if u dont want to swap the wiring harnnes). and yes low compression, but who cares the car puts about 190HP and a 325i stock torque.Originally posted by e30elose the old man bmwcca badge.Comment

I didn't get to see his car today as I was called to a job, so if I'm lucky, he'll still have it on the weekend. Although I highly doubt it as he's selling it for $950.
EDIT: Just called the guy and somebody bought it already...I guess I really have a bad luck when it comes to buying cars. I've missed buying almost 4 cars now just because I wasn't fast enough:(Comment

I'm going to be autocrossing my chipped 325es starting this weekend, we'll see about your little "claim".
I'm willing to bet that most of the people that talk shit about etas have never driven one, let alone a chipped one like mine. Yeah, they are lacking in hp numbers and top-end speed/revs. I will flat-out WALK a 325i off the line, and for a good distance afterward.Comment

I bought my clean 1988 seta with 250k for 1500.00 The previous owner had all of the records and had spent over 3k in maint. over the last 2 years. I have been driving it daily, auto-x, and running the mountain roads pretty hard. I love the torque!88 325 S-ETA --WahwooweewahComment

My first E30 was an eta, and I loved it. I like the eta as a starting point when building a car. Dont really know why, but I do.Comment

HP is not the determining factor in autocrossing. I saw a bone stock civic and a bone stock sentra (non se-r) spank much faster cars. Hell i even spanked a couple of vettes. I think an eta would be better suited for autocrossing due to the lack of top end preventing the car from stepping out. fun chipped maybe and would be good enough for autoX i think with proper suspension. I fuckin hate mine ATM though. I have put hrs and hrs of work into it and got nowhere acceleration wise. handling is good.97 tacoma 5 spd 4 cylinder
