    S52 swap reliability

    Hi,

    I was planning on a S52 swap later this year, but it looks like my wife and I will be moving back to the Dallas/Plano area. Right now, I only drive her around town here and have time to fix any issues that crop up. Now that I am moving back, the wife wants me to get a more reliable car. I have her convinced that the S52 swap would help out a lot. Is this the case? Is the swap reliable for daily driving?

    The engine I have found has 54k on it. I will probably have Terry Sather Auto in Austin do the swap for me. Time is running out since I have to pack, find house, etc soon. In doing the swap, I will have all gaskets, water pump, seals replaced while out of the car. Please advise. I (she would kill me) if I put this money in and still had to get a crappy honda or something to drive.

    done right they are dead reliable. ive had mine for 6 years and spent countless hours on the track and never done a thing but change oil. sayther is a good shop so you shouldnt worry about anything there.

      Thanks blunt!! I would much rather drive this with the S52/Kopi shocks/new springs/ etc than a 10k used honda. I will get it scheduled for May!!

      the only issue is the standard. My wife has never driven one and she sometime works weekends and may need to drive her to work once or twice a month. I keep telling her its not that hard and with a little practice she may enjoy it!

        I rather she kill me cause i spent the money on the S52. you'll feel dead when you have to get rid of your E30 for a Honda. I know i would.

          It took me a long time to get the G/F to drive a stick, she was so scared of it (well the staling part) but in a couple of hours she got the hang of it, now its hard to get her out of the E30 when I want to drive it.

            So your wife will be driving the s52 car on occasion? I would make sure she has something else to drive in case it's raining, that car will be tail happy.

              We have a new Odyssey Van. She just wants another car so on the weekend when she sometimes works, she can leave me the van to haul the twins around. If it is any bad weather, she can take van because I will probably not want to get out with the kids :)

                M50 family motors are dead reliable like Blunt said. Common sense and a Bentley could yield a nice M/S50 motor swap.

                  I've taken the plunge. S52 from M roadster from Zionsville with 50k on her is on the way down to Terry Sayther. I will be taking the car down there for the month long swap in a few weeks. I'll have them also put the Koni's and IE III springs I bought from here on the board (from deansbimmer) with the other 5 speed swap components from him. Now I just need some ideas for a great set of 16 or 17 wheels..... I kinda like the Keskin KT1's.. Should be a totally different car when I get her back.

                    Ouch, a month?

                    As far as reliability, I'd say my S50 car is probably more reliable than the M20 car. :)

                        id say it would be, definatly because your putting a relitivly new enign in a reliable car, it will most likely be more reliable then it is now
