Ha! E30 electrical problem! YES!

I have an intermittent windshield wiper problem. It seems when I accelerate somewhat hard, my wipers turn on by themselves and then cut off by themselves after a few wipes. Now, when I want them on, I can turn them on no problem and cut them off myself. Anyone have any input on fixing this problem? My wiper stalk is fine, so could it be the slow speed relay?

Ironically, something similar happened to me last Friday. Hard acceleration and the wipers and windshield washer came on. Shut the car off and turned it back on and now I can't reproduce it. Probably just a short.

Can you reproduce your issue reliably?

Unfortunately yes. If I start "getting on it" they turn on like they have a mind of their own.

I remember reading something about this a while back in the Roundel. It's a short at a location where the wiring harness passes thru a body panel. I just can't remember if it was at the fire wall or at the fender... Regardless, take a good look your wiring harness and see if you can find any places where the insulation has been broken off or looks frayed..
