You mean why do I use math to figure out that my expenses from rising fuel costs are a small portion of my budget. And that if I really needed to, not going out to eat one night a month, for example, would more than offset that.

Then why do you have 3 cars? Because you want three cars, I get that. But what I dont understand is why youre bitching about something you need (gas to fill A car to get to work), when you probably spend much more on the things you want and dont need.

This is going way offtopic and not aimed at the people posting in this thread. But what really irks me is the same people bitching about gas prices, bitch about the war, whose main purpose is to prevent our fuel costs from reaching European levels.

I just topped off the tank yesterday - 14 gallons @ $3.99/gal. (87 octane).

Total price: $55.86

Conservatively driven this will get me ~350 miles which works out to about $.16/mile.

Except I'm paying $4.19/gal for 91 octane because I have this stupid little thing in my car called a chip.

And I usually fill 13-14 gallons everytime I fill up. So it's $54-$60 every three days.

I usually get about 300 miles out of the tank before filling up again. So it's about $.20/mile.

You missed my point as usual. I'm just sick and tired of people shitting a brick everytime gas goes up 20cents/gallon. On a 12 gallon fillup of an e30, thats a 2.40$ increase. My point is that if your weekly budget cant handle a 3$ swing then you have bigger problems to worry about.

Really? I get 300 miles out of my '90 325i without even thinking about it, and that's without a low fuel light coming on. The best mileage I've ever managed was 29mpg driving VERY conservatively, which should be good for more than 350 miles.

This car is rarely used for anything other than my commute, which is 30 miles, 1/2 back roads, 1/2 highway.

I remember when premium was about $1.99 per gallon 3 years ago. Now it's $4.00, and it costs me $50 to fill instead of $25. Now maybe in the grand scheme of things $25 isn't the end-all, but considering I have to fill up 5-6 times per month, it's still about $150 dollars to me, which ends up being $1500+ over the course of a year. And that does make a difference to a college student :)

I just thought it was a little rediculous. No, $3-4 a tank doesn't hurt me, that's why I don't mind putting in the 93 octane... But adding it all up, my gas allowance is going up a lot faster than some of my other bills. Groceries have gone up a little...
I can understand inflation, and profit. I have it fairly easy as far as commute goes, but I LIKE to drive recreationally, and this is really sucking that up pretty quickly.

15-20 cent increase per gallon a month, for the past year or so. That starts to cut into peoples budgets pretty quickly. Perhaps if you live with your parents, don't drive much, don't pay heating bills or pay for food, you may be shielded from the overall effect. However, in the real world, that gas price increase is also reflected in food costs and heating oil, to a pretty significant degree. Combined with no real increase in the living wage, and a lot of people will start hurting.

Spent goose egg on the E30 over the past six months (been set aside waiting to become a better E30.....Eta-->i)

However, my daily tacoma pickup fills for about $40-44 on regular octane at the going rate of $3.83-$3.89 a gallon here in Los Angeles, of which lasts me on average a solid four days of 80-100 miles of commuting a day.
