Helped a friend of mine once ship a set of vaders. Set them on a pallet and then used the heavier duty plastic straps (like you find used on large boxes/pallets) to fix them down standing up and then wrapped the heck out of them in plastic wrap.
Go to a Uhaul store and get some boxes. I think the TV box is what I got. they are double walled and have poke through handles. Take the headrest off and you are good to go. The 2 door seats fit just fine. It's wide enough for the levers. Congrats for not being a waffleswaffleswaffleswaffleswaffles about shipping seats.
Uhaul wardrobe box, put them in 69 style w/ headrests off and they will fit perfectly. Wrap w/ duck tape. I've done it twice...it works. Make sure to wrap the duck tape around the box, top to bottom a couple of times for weight support.
Cool, I will check out uhaul for boxes. Stopped by UPS Store and their prices are kinda high.
Did you use any base support, like a piece of thin plywood or something? I was thinking of ripping a couple of pieces and securing the seats to the wood, then drop it in the box.

That couldn't hurt. And check around with other shippers. Fedex ground is probably the best bet while the cheapest is probably Grey Hound Bus (but not always the best choice due to locations since the receiver has to pick up at a terminal). Oh stay away from DHL, THEY SUCK ! They can't ever find a location and damage everything...
I found this to be the easiest and cheapest way to ship front seats;
4 Steps for seat separation:
remove the 2 screws on seatback
unhook cable using a flathead screwdriver
pry white tab upwards using same screwdriver
pull seatback upwards away from seat bottom
Receiving party just needs to go to closest location.
Works great for seats.
They are also 10x less likely to damage the item than fedex. If you don't want to pay for boxes, go to your local bicycle shop and ask them for a couple bike boxes. Then just cut them down and make a custom box. Duct tape is probably better than packaging tape for support.

No base support, really there wasn't any structure issue. Just wrap duct tape around from top to bottom on each side and it will be enough support. The box cost me...I want to say like $16.00-$20.00 at my local Uhual
U-Haul definitely has the boxes you need. I always go there or my local moving place to get big, double corrugated boxes that would be appropriate for shipping large and heavy items.

Here is how I ship them with 1500lb plastic band strapping. I do use U-haul wardrobe boxes though. Do the same with duct tape.

I suggest not using duct tap and use GOOD packaging tape. Duct tape doesn't stick as well to cardboard and it tears a LOT easier. Put 2-3 wraps of packaging tape around the box and you should be good. Either that or use paper tape that is fiber reinforced. Did I mention to make sure you use GOOD tape? Not the 99 cent a roll crap. GOOD stuff such as 3M for example.
Thanks guys. I ended up going to UPS and getting 2 - 24x24xY boxes. I bought a cheap piece of 1/4" plywood and laid it in the bottom of the box. I wrapped the 2 seats 69 style without headrests and then placed them in the box. The took the other box and placed it on top of the other one. Taped it up with that threaded heavy duty packing tape.
Worked great!
Now shipping that convertible top and frame was a whole different ballgame...
