Can someone explain to me what the deal is with the metric wheels? Is it the diameter? Width? Both? Tires are expensive for them?

When I was looking for tires to replace the old TRX ones on a 633, I found this somewhere online... "in the early 1980's Michelin, Ford and BMW tried to go to a metric diameter wheel - so they made 360 and 390 mm wheels (14.2 and 15.3 inches). They thought the rest of the industry would follow their lead and migrate to metric wheels. it didn't happen. after about 5 years they gave up on the 360/390 mm wheels and went back to inch size. thats how it happened. Near as i can tell NOBODY makes a 360 or 390 tire currently."

I'm gonna go with Funk on this one and say that these are probably metric. Look at the picture of the wheels/tires and look for the ever classic "Michelin".
ninja edit - I lied, tires say dunlop, they probably are RS's.Originally posted by BillBraskyE36's are the Stephen Baldwin of the 3 series family. They barely hold everything together and they only sold a lot because of the popularity of their older sibling.

Well, I've checked into it and from what I've read, it could have a dogleg tranny due to it being a real euro version..
I went back to the original photo and pulled out some more detail... Looks like non-metric to me.
I think I read 225/50 r16's
I'm not saying money's tight, but it’s something I’m defiantly watching right now. He would want around the high side of $5k for this. I know I could even part it out and make up the money, but I'm not sure I want to take out a loan for a few grand on a gamble right now (I feel a little shaky with my economy right now; not sure how the market for this would really be in the next 6 months or so). That's still my thought... But I do like a good challenge and I haven't gambled in quite some time.Last edited by Huff; 05-20-2008, 07:41 AM.

No doubt about it being an M88. Beautiful headers, high compression, and a very desirable engine in general.
Ditto on it being a 280, most have had them swapped though by now. This one is probably legit judging by appearance. Those wheels are also very valuable.
Buffalo interior is also quite valuable. Overall, assuming the engine didn't lose cam-drive and grenade, you could get it running and have a super rare car, or part it out/sell it for at least $10k.
How much can you get it for? I suspect you'll say dirt cheap...

Buy it, clean up it and you will be hooked, you can get north of 10k for it easy.
