i have an 89 325i with a busted ignition coil. the only coil i have to replace itwith is one from an 84 318i. i know the 325i is dme and the 318i is tci, just wondering if i can do it? i just want to use it to get the 325 running so i can work on it, i wont be driving it until i get a new coil. please help me out, i want to work on the car in the morning.

Larry, I don't know how they are different if any but realoem does show different part numbers for both:

      84 318i coil is 12131273216
      89 325i coil is 12131286087

        coil

Thanks for looking that up Jean. I think i may just try the coil, i cant see much happening, i am just trying to figure out what the worst case scenario could be if i do use it? I know that msd coils are universal so i am not to sure what would make a coil model specific.
