    Gas caps....

I got some weird stuff going on with my fuel tank cap. When it is locked down tight, the nubs are in a verticle position, touching the fuel door, making it stay open a little. I need a little feedback on the orientation of both the fuel filler neck cut outs and the caps tabs. Maybe my cap is bad, wrong (factory- but from junkyard), or the neck is coming apart and actually rotated (fat chance).

(|) - Right now, when my cap is tight is in this position.
(-) - Should probably be like this when down tight.

(- -) - This is how my filler neck's cut outs for the tabs are oriented.

I'll wait patiently for my trophy for most retarded question ever to be asked on R3V....

Honestly, I think the seal on the cap somehow magically walked around 180 deg. This is for an 89' with the 16l tank....

Mine is the same as yours. Handle is vertical when tightened down. And the cut outs on the filler neck are they same as yours too.

When I got the car it had some mickey mouse cap on it, so this weekend I went to the local yard and got a oe cap, and its in that same position. What is happening here, some kinda chromagnon bigfoot screwing up gas caps, I need more answers. How does your fuel door shut with the cap like that?

I called my local independent shop, and asked them to check. Sounds like 4 e30's had no gas cap at all, and two others had the handle at the 1 oclock and 7 oclock position. Almost verticle, slightly offset.
