bought a couple of bikes this weekend...took the advice of about half
of those who responded to the original post and bought myself a 6 month
old 2004 Yamaha TTR225 trail bike...it is a 4 stroke, but it definitely has
some grunt...i had to go about 50 miles out of town to check it out...self
employed paint contractor got a little surprise in the mail from the IRS and
need to come up with some cash fast...he'd only ridden it about 10 times--
hadn't even had the first oil change...he financed almost $4000 to buy it
at almost 18% interest...idiot...
on a side note...a word of advice guys on 'hobby' purchases...if you can't
pull the greenbacks out of your pocket to pay cash--you can't afford to buy
it...period...
anyway...i paid him $2300 cash out of my pocket and drove away with the
bike, a really nice Fuller helmet and some Bollé goggles...
a couple of hours later, i found myself driving 50 miles in the opposite
direction to check out a 2002 Yamaha PW80 for my 9 year old son...
2 stroke, 3 speed semi-auto (no clutch) with automatic oil injection...
as hard as it was to believe, these people had financed a $1500 bike
2 years ago at 18% interest! unbelievably STUPID! their daughter had
ridden it about a half dozen times...hated it...and they ended up buying her
an electric scooter...$1000 cash out of my pocket and i was driving away
with the bike and another really nice Fulmer helmet...
it rained cats and dogs yesterday...not the kind of weather i wanted to
throw my son out in on a bike for the first time...i'll let you know if either
of us ends up killing himself...
