I had a set, and stupidly sold it. In person they definitely have a purple tinge as well. I didn't like the look of them on the white car, but on a darker car or a red car I think they're dope.

i think its the other way around. the early ones had a tough time passing german TUV, so the later ones are more on the red/pink/orange side for inspection reasons. thats what ive heard. i might be wrong.

Mariano's, backtrail69s, and Mikeedler's cars all have startecs. If you look at their pics, the "red" section of the taillight has a purplish hue to them.

Late MHWs really got the look perfect IMO, because they retain the OEM colors while still giving the smoked look.

The all red MHWS however, look like crap due to pink turn signal, and reverse sections.

mtechnik is correct. Startecs are only pre face lift/e30 M3 style. the MHWs are for the later 3ers.

Quite right.
As far as I know, MHW did not actually make these lights for early and late E30's, but had them made by a 2nd party and had their name (MHW) on the box.
