    5 hour drive

So I'm driving 5 hours next week to check out an E30. What are some of the specific things I should look for when I check out the car? I'm pretty sure the SI board needs to be replaced because the guy said the brake lining light and all those are stuck on even though there is nothing wrong with the car. Other than that, what should I look for.

Engine, misfiring, tranny leaks, driveshaft.bearing noises, check the cleanliness of the oil, shifter bearings (if manual)..., Rear Axle leaks/noises..

Check under the car for improper jacking, under carriage damage..

        Main electronics...

Records. You want proof the timing belt has been replaced in the last 40k or else take 400 off the price automatically.

Do you have a mirror? If so check the rear cam seals and see if there are any cracks in the head.

RUST, especially in the trunk under the carpet in those pockets behind the wheels.

Do you know what a worn subframe feels like? Those bushings might be bad by now and are somewhat of a challenge to replace (enough to barter with).

Balljoints on the control arms are possibly due.

Ifthe guy has records that the car has been well maintained I would jump if the price is right. The 89 325is is possibly the second most desierable non-M (and attainable) among enthusiasts because it has all the toys and the good lights.

Dont judge the shifting until it warms a bit. Then keep your concentration on the synchros. Those trannys are bulletproof but the synchros have gone bad before.
          Im now E30less.

Well, I'm heading out to go buy the car here in the next hour. I want to thank everyone that has helped me. I hope that I can get a good price and be driving it home some time tomorrow. I'll post pics when I get back.

um no they don't. I think you'd need an M for it to count as an M. ;)
