    Silly mistake

So, a good friend just got a deal on a 89 e30 a while back. We went to the dmw on monday to get it registered and the P.O. hadn't even transfered the title from the lady he bought it from, oh and it was last registered in 2006. Anyway, he got pulled over today moving the car to his parents house and got a ticket. Keep in mind he had already gotten the car insured the day he got it (monday) and was just waiting for the dimwit who sold it to him to finish the paperwork with the lady who he bought it from in the first place. Long story short, he now has a ticket, no registration and the po is being a deuche because he's not picking up his cell phone. I feel for him because he was so happy and now he's pissed off and basically stuck. If the bastard doesn't call him before his court date next month he's screwed cause he won't even be able to go to court with evidence that it is now registered. In truth he should have done his research before he bought the car. Problem is that he's now stuck with it, with no way out except getting the po to get the paperwork to him. Any advice?

Hmm, well that was what we were gonna do. Call ahead, and drive out and camp. Or maybe cal the lady who is still technically the registered owner. What is the fine for no registration?

I've been in this situation before, the only thing that can cover him, is a bill of sale written to him by the douche who sold him the car. If I were him, I'd look for the lady who is the sole owner of the car., get a bill of sale have her sign it transfer it over to his name (your friend) and done deal get it done fast or like you said he'll be shit out of luck, with who knows how many tickets along with the car or not.

Just looked it up, $201 mandatory fine, although the charge may be dismissed if you show proof of registration after the offense, I'm guessing before the court date. Hmm, well just means he has to get the registration before mid-july. Well atleast it's not all bad.

Yeah the cop was kind. He had the same birthday as my friend so he let him off with just the ticket. That woulda been shite if the car got impounded.
