i own a 85 323i. friday i am buying a 86 325es. ive read that the easyest way to make a stroker is to bolt the 323 head on the e block is this true and has anyone done this. what eles will i need to do,and what will i need. also the 323 is a 3 speed sport.

The 323i 731 casting head has the same combustion chamber shape as the eta, so the head retains the high compression that the eta has normally. It's good for a snappy NA car. If you were to use an M20B25 head you would lose compression (unless you shave the head) which is what some people do for forced induction applications. The 731 head is ideal for the eta block.

head swapping an eta is pretty pointless without doing full supporting mods... if you aren't even going to go all the way on the so often dubbed "half assed stroker" .... you should just leave it stock... or get a chip, suspension...3.5 or 3.25 steering, 3.25 LSD, some fat wheels and sticky tires, and autocross until you break the m20 then swap in an m50 (or better if you have more money).
