    323i head swaped

i own a 85 323i. friday i am buying a 86 325es. ive read that the easyest way to make a stroker is to bolt the 323 head on the e block is this true and has anyone done this. what eles will i need to do,and what will i need. also the 323 is a 3 speed sport.

You will need a tranny, because the 3-spd sucks ;)

I've heard the head is a great upgrade as well, but I don't have any details.

Just call it an automatic and get it over with. :p

The 323i 731 casting head has the same combustion chamber shape as the eta, so the head retains the high compression that the eta has normally. It's good for a snappy NA car. If you were to use an M20B25 head you would lose compression (unless you shave the head) which is what some people do for forced induction applications. The 731 head is ideal for the eta block.

Even though using the "I" head lowers compression, it still makes the car pretty quick, a bit quicker than a plain ETA. And I'd surely get rid of the automatic = more FUN!!

head swapping an eta is pretty pointless without doing full supporting mods... if you aren't even going to go all the way on the so often dubbed "half assed stroker" .... you should just leave it stock... or get a chip, suspension...3.5 or 3.25 steering, 3.25 LSD, some fat wheels and sticky tires, and autocross until you break the m20 then swap in an m50 (or better if you have more money).

Sorry, but the 323i head is a great upgrade for eta engines. Match it with a 325i intake manifold for better flow, maybe some bigger injectors, chip, k&n filter, etc and you've got a good 2.7 motor. Much better than the m20b25 head/eta block combo.

nothing at all, only 240,000+ miles worth of wear on it. its a auto, crappy interior and paint. just a little worn. dose anyone know if i can replace the 323 head with a different not so hard to find and cheaper head. i would hate to take it off and junk it.

no, I don't think they are swap-able with any other head. but I could be wrong
