Another great reason to get a euro plate...

So my E30 had this great european plate on the front until earlier this week. I say "had" because when I was on the freeway I encountered the debris (big pieces) of a disintegrated truck tire. I thought I'd managed to avoid all the pieces, and just when I was feeling pretty proud of the maneuverability of my car ;) I got a bit of instant karma: the GMC van about 4-5 car lengths in front of me hit a piece and picked it up. It proceeded to nail the front center of my car with a loud BANG. One look in the rearview mirror and I could see the plate , smashed holder and tire piece(s) tumbling off to the shoulder. I feared the worst, but when I pulled over and inspected the damage, I was blessed with the good news - NO DAMAGE other than the plate & holder!

I recommend that people buy plates like this for the front of their cars. It saved the precious plastic bumper and who knows what else. Cheap insurance

By the way, the lip was off in my garage at home when this happened - it's fine :)

I suppose I must invest soon...

Reminds me of the time I was driving behind a rock carrier and the truck hit a bump in the road, shooting one of the large rocks out the back. Since it was in traffic, I had no where to go but straight. So at 40 mph I went straight over a small 20 lb boulder and ended up pushing it a good 100ft with my skid plate, until I could pull over and yank it out from under the car.
