there is a perfect track rat for sale a few blocks from me in the form of an e21. The paint is shot but the interior is decent. I figure I could slam it on some race springs then just take out the entire interior minus the front seat, do some minor engine mods and just run it as a autox car. Id like to start racing to improve my driving proficiency and this looks like a sweet deal. The guy wants 750 for it and it runs good. I think i might take her for a test drive in a few days. Any opinions on the e21 becoming a mild mannered learning tool?

e21's suck!!! the front sway bar is part of the locating arm. the brakes are too small. AND THEY RUST!!!
I have had 9-10 between drivers and parts cars. I could pick up 2-3 right now for parts (free or about free) but there are no money making parts on them.

I can't understand bmw with the e21.. the 2002 handles decently for its age.. the e21 is just the biggest P.O.S in terms of handling.. and then they had the e30 which handles OK also.Comment

I'm so offended! I LOVE my E21 (323). I'd say its handling is very comparable to that of my 318.
Different feeling.. due to the lack of powersteering and heavy front.. but very good.
I've had more trouble losing the back end of my E30 than I have the E21. Go figure.
