My euro 316 project Transaction Feedback -
It's really all about finding the right buyer. I looked for over 1.5 years for the right E30, and then paid a pretty penny for it. How many people do you know that visit R3V, e30tech, s14, Bf.c, bimmerforums, bimmerfest, e46fanatics, roundel, autotrader, ebay, craigslist (national!), and even obscure local forums EVERY DAY for years just to find the right car? I don't care if someone else thinks I "overpaid", because I know what is/was available - and what a car is worth is what someone (me in this case) will pay for it. If it's true that "a fool and his money are soon parted", then the grin on my face every time I take a hard, increasing radius turn at the top of second gear, or heel-and-toe a downshift into a 90-degree left is worth being "foolish" ;).
Be patient and persistent. You'll find the right buyer. Unless you just have to sell it right now, you will find someone.
Very very true. I went thru a similar situation selling my 71z. Over 16k in the car and plenty of people lowballing that could not even afford what I finally sold it for in the first place. I still get calls for it even after I sold for it took me 6months. People still call and tell me that they had not seen the add, but wish they had because they spent more than what I sold it for on their POS cars with half the modifications. Still calling me after A YEAR!
Advertise heavily and be patient and if you are desparate for the cash then at least sell it to someone who is an enthusiast and will enjoy your hardwork.
Sweet Car BTW!sigpic

do you guys think mid 80's 911 prices will take somewhat of a dive considering the current market?
Sure I love my e30, but it's no 911Comment

Oddly I just had an offer on my daily driver (started out life as a 91 318is) for $12K...
I turned it down...
I might be stupid...
It would seem that the e30 has a following that will pay big $$$, but right at the moment I don't think most anyone has any money.Comment
-
Doubtful... That is an entirely different following of people looking for those cars. That plus the repair/maintenance of those cars, are are not getting any cheaper either.Comment
-
BTW - the more someone says "its a bad economy" the more it happens. Take tolite paper for example. Same price as ever. Not effected by the DOW/SMP.
When was the last time you heard someone say " I CANT AFFORD TO WIPE MY ASS!!"
never...
Don't listen to the news - just feed you family.
How can you explain prices going up 50-100% overnight, the supply/demand law is controlled by governments anymore.344is! Obd1 conversion

I look at it this way: the money spent is an investment, so to speak, in my future enjoyment. If I depreciate the up-front cost for building the car over, say, five years, I doubt this will be such an expensive car relative to what else I could have bought new for that money, and a damn cheap car relative to the enjoyment I would derive from a comparably-priced new car.
This is the economic rationalizations of a gear-head, for sure, but I think it's pretty sound. The caveat is that this argument only holds up provided I keep the car for long enough. This one's a keeper, though.
