    e82 seatbelt gong

I know this isnt e30 related but the people on 1addicts are not very mechanically inclined and they were no help with this... I know there are a few BMW techs here that may know the answer.

The seatbelt gong in the 135i is absolutely freakin annoying. It doesnt even give you a chance to put your belt on before it goes off. Also if you put anything over the weight of a piece of paper in the passenger seat you have to buckle it in. If you just unplug the belt it throws an airbag warning light. I have also heard rumor(i havent tried this yet) that if you short the wires its fine for a few drives then throws the same light because it thinks the sensor is faulty. I have thought about unplugging the gong itself but it is used for otehr functions that I dont want to loose. Ideas???

the 135 is an amazing car other than this VERY annoying gong. Thanks for any help guys and sorry for the non-e30 content.

is it not possible to complete the circuit so it thinks the belt is plugged in all the time? like pull the wires from the belt itself and just complete the circuit?

Most cars these days have a disarm routine. On most fords it involved plugging in the seatbelt several times while in ACC. Dunno if BMW's have the same procedure, but it's worth a looksy in the manual.

I hope you don't want to bypass the seatbelt gong because you don't like wearing a seatbelt when you drive...

I would follow the noise, most likely its under the steering wheel like 75% of all bimmers. Just cut the wires to the speaker. You will still have a seat belt light (if equipped) But no annoying gong. Ive done this on a e60.

did some more looking for ya. The ford routine probably will NOT work, here's one place to look:

Here's a diy for a mini, might be similar:
Electrical - Disable your Seat Belt warning chime!!! - Ok, I may be the only one who actually started going insane, but that annoying dinging had to go. Either the noise, or my sanity. This is from my '05 MCS. It takes under 5 minutes per buckle!!! *******This is not a bulletin on driving safety! It is a how-to!...

One thing I've noticed in every car thread about disabling seatbelt gong is the many replies along the lines of

"you're stupid, go hit a tree"
"buckle up if you want the gong to go off"

I guess every car forum has it's requisite douche nozzles.

Beir, you take it to the dealership to have the seat checked? We replace a couple a week at the dealership here on a lot of varieties of BMWs. Its from someone too heavy, or someone just flopping onto the seat. They break the sensor, which is a large pad, and it reads as if someone were in the seat. Id have the dealership check it out, it'll be free anyways.

Like I said above a few people have said that the car "knows" that your belt hasnt been undone and it throws the airbag light. I havent tried this yet since I would liek to get a definate answer before I start ripping apart my car with 15 miles on it

As for the chime. I could unplug it but the car chimes for EVRERYTHING, some useful some not. I dont want to loose all the features.

If it comes to it I am going to try and mod the clip liek browntowns article.

Yes I want the gong gone...If you owned the car it would drive you nuts too. Dont give me the seatbelt lecture.

Might be something the dealer can turn off in the computer. Do you know if the euro-spec cars have this seatbelt gong as well? Sounds like something added to keep sue-happy US owners in check.

If you still plan on wearing your seat belt (which everyone should, no matter what) It really doesn't matter if the car knows anything. Like I said cut the wire to the speaker, their has to be a speaker for the door gong!

Male seat buckle, search ebay http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Male-...mZ310044780708

This may fit, I know they seem to fit almost everything else. But its only useful to fix the problem of putting stuff on your passenger seat.

I'm no help for the gong thing, but how do you like the car after having it for a period of time? Any complaints? I'll likely buy one when I graduate.

I just want to know if it feels any lighter/more nimble than a 3-series. Car and Driver complained that it is nearly as heavy (and not much cheaper either), and recommended just buying the sedan. I wanted a 1-series until I read that :(
