    Project 318i

    Ahoi everybody.

    I've been a quite-some-time lurker on the boards, but just joined up today, because i finally picked up a little 318 project car.
    Telling you right away that it needs alot of work, so don't run off screaming, attempting to eat my brain :|.

    Picked her up for 700 bucks in the middle of nowhere. Has about 142k miles on it now. Rust is primarily around the wheel arches, bit on the door and one rather large spot infront of the driver strut-tower/wheel arch (Can be seen in the pics).
    Wheels are in very bad shape, but i don't think they're bent. Interior is very dusty and driver seat has a small hole in the back. Shocks are probably on the way out, but they should last for a bit longer.

    Primary use will be daily driving duties for now, until the engine or bigger driveline part goes. Then i'll probably do a motorswap, but not sure what will go in there yet. Hopefully, i still have some time before i have to decide ;).

    Anyway, here are the pics, but like i said, looks rough. Stupid M-badges are off already... ;)

    Already ordered a few parts for it. Front fenders, waterpump, timing belt kit, intake elbow (Airbox to throttlebody, it's cracked), plugs, distributor/rotor, oilfilter/oil, new radiator/coolant, hoses and such.
    Revcounter wasn't working, but i just changed the SI batteries, and all instruments are working fine now.

    This is the spot of rust i was talking about. It's actually rusted through (You can look into the engine bay from the wheel-well :?), and is in a bit of a crappy spot. Guess i'll have to polish my metal-bending and welding skills again.

    I'll be in the US for a month starting next week, so i sadly won't be able to work on it. But the parts should be here by then, so when i get back, there will be lots of tearing apart and replacing ;).

    Thanks for looking. I know it's not much yet, but hopefully i'll get it looking great again.

    Cheers!

          Those wheels are pretty cool looking, Wonder what they would look like with a polished lip?

            Thanks guys :D

            I still haven't figured out what brand wheels they are :(. My friend had the same on his 325iX a while back, but doesn't know either.
            Personally, i was thinking of just powdercoating them a dark grey. Think that should look nice. And i'm not sure how the actual surface is underneath all the brakedust and pealing coat :nice:.

            Doucy, yeah, it's just a little M40 :puppy:, but hey, it should last me a bit and then it's going to get replaced by something better, i promise :up:.

            Today i noticed that the left bulb of the instrument cluster is dead and the right is almost burnt out...
            Naturally, i didn't check for that when i pulled the cluster to replace the SI batteries :puppy:.
            Stupidity has to be punished though :oops:.

            Thanks again for looking, Cheers! ;)

                  It's just a stock Euro M40B18. Nothing special :p

                  Btw., i found the manufacturer of the wheels. Apparently, it's a Italian company called MiM, can't find the exact wheels, however. Might've been discontinued.

                  Edit: Found a mit of Info/History on the Company.

                  1982 - Mim Project is founded as a design company and achieves such tremendous success that it becomes impossible to have production made entirely by third parties.
                  1986 - Mim invests money in machinery and real estate
                  1987 - Joint-venture with Speedline. The company is no longer just an artisan, but is now a manufacturer fully integrated with the Speedline group.
                  1997 - After 10 years of commercial development, Mim Ruote reaches sale volumes of 600,000 heels per annum. Speedline is purchased by the American group Amcast. As a result, Mim becomes fully independent and, with the introduction of its own foundry facility, is now able to achieve 100% in-house production.
                  1998 - Mim Ruote purchases the Tecnomagnesio brand-name and begins magnesium production. Thanks to this new production facility, Mim can now widen its range of products.
                  2002 - The group works for:

                  * After-Market
                  * German tuners (Hamann, Kleemann, Sportec, Mariani ...)
                  * Original Equipment Accessories
                  * Original Equipment Manufacturers (Gm-Fiat, PSA, ...)
                  * competition in aluminium and magnesium (Mitsubishi, ...)
